From the perspective of Jim Thompson, Dallas is a very important place. That is why, when he determined that it was time to leave ORIX USA years ago, so that he couldestablish his own firm, the now-venerable Preston Hollow Capital, he founded his company in the same Dallas building that had housed ORIX USA.To Jim Thompson, Dallas is his community and he wants to give back where he can. He is certainly dedicated to improving the business climate in his community, that is certain.
With his own firm, Preston Hollow Capital, Jim Thompson has tended to pursue the twin strategies of investing in fixed income credit and participating in the acquisition of operating companies in such diverse industries as investment banking, asset management, mortgage origination and life sciences sectors. Just as importantly, Jim Thompson has a strong affinity for his Dallas community. Because of that, Jim likes to give back to the community whenever he can. That is whyJim Thompson appears to be a very active philanthropist in that community. Not only has Jim Thompson served on the board of the Dallas Urban Debate Alliance, but he has also strongly supported a wide range of Dallas-area non-profits through the Jim & Angela Thompson Foundation, which he funded specifically for that purpose.
On his own, Jim Thompson has also expressed unwavering support for STEM education initiatives. One element of that comes with his leadership and support of the Blue Sky Educational Foundation.Jim Thompson was all once a Board Member for Dallas CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), which helps underserved children find the legal assistance they need. He also has been on the boards for the AOPA Foundation and the Angel Flight South Central at various times, and he is has also played key roles with The Family Place and the World Craniofacial Foundation.
